Koelhuis Eindhoven
Koelhuis Eindhoven is the cultural and tech hub, focused on
Immersive Experiences within the emerging Koelhuis District. The gigantic, industrial heritage building emerged from the redevelopment of the former Campina freezer warehouse that used to store consumer ice cream. The venue will become an interdisciplinary center for new media art, immersive technologies, and contemporary culture. Its mission is to democratize arts and culture by using immersive (digital)
experiences to make complex topics accessible to a wide audience.
The building, with its large dark spaces, suitable for large-scale installations, will serve as a testbed for makers. It will become a center of excellence for immersive experiences, where spaces can be used by the community and international tech partners for demos, showcasing the latest innovations, testing, and assembly. The IX Lab function will serve as a testbed for cut-
ting-edge developments. Moreover, the state-of-the-art “experience rooms” equipped for immersive experiences and augmented reality will allow for the creation of highly interactive educational content. For instance, these rooms could simulate low-risk virtual settings for training individuals and groups in technical and scientific topics that traditionally require a clean-room environment. This innovative approach offers many economic and educational advantages, providing practical, hands-on learning opportunities in a controlled virtual space. Moreover, Koelhuis will incorporate training facilities for artists and technicians seeking to develop specific skills and
crafts, such as large-scale video projections or generative art.
